A Month of Sundays

Worship services begin at 10:30 a.m.

Bullet Point:  Apr 7 --- "Community, Slavery and Liberation: A preparation                for Passover" Amanda Udis-Kessler Meditation

How do people wind up oppressed and how do they get liberated? Surprisingly, perhaps the story of Passover has something to say even to people who are not identified as Jews or Christians. Amanda Udis-Kessler reflects on the way the Hebrews got enslaved in the first place, and what this has to do with our lives today. The Egyptians could only exploit the Hebrews because a new king came to power "who did not know" them. Do we know each other? Do we know ourselves? Do we know our planet? If not, can we really live liberated lives and liberate others? Come hear an unusual take on a story told through the ages.

Bullet Point:  Apr 13 --- "The Cost of War in Iraq: Who Pays the Price"                 Pete Quinby/Kristen Castor

Today, the UUCP will stand with the Unitarian-Universalist Service Committee and UU congregations nationwide in honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. In observing the 40th anniversary of his assassination, we must work to restore justice for the people of the United States and Iraq. The war in Iraq has drained this nation’s resources, created humanitarian crises in Iraq, and left a multitude of needs at home unmet - including the disgraceful lack of resources and commitment to rebuild the Gulf Coast. Today’s worship service and UUSC’s Simple Steps for Justice will empower us to educate, act and speak out!

Bullet Point:  Apr 20 --- "The Interconnected Web" Rev. Michael Corrigan

Our Seventh Principle is often thought of as the “green” or the Earth-centered principle. On this Sunday closest to Earth Day we will consider the wider implications of the Seventh Principle. What would it mean to live in “respect for the interdependent web of all existence, of which we are a part?” What new global, cosmic, and local awareness would we gain? And what old habits would we have to give up?
